A modern lifestyle without an efficient postal service is almost impossible to imagine. For this reason PO Box rental facilities around the world strive to provide quality postal services that cover the full spectrum of sending and receiving mail. 1653 marks the year when the first postal service in the world was offered in France. It idea was adopted by other countries and eventually evolved into a mega global service. Post office boxes are the only means of receiving mail in isolated county areas with little or no mailing infrastructure.

Originally in Britain only letters of the Monarch of the time were hand delivered. But a system that could handle the flow of letters and parcels from one central point was soon up and running in the United Kingdom and abroad. A further system of private postbox collection facilities was introduced along with the distinctive red street corner mailboxes to receive mail. Delivery to street addresses was also introduced.

Revenue was required to run this new postal service and stamps were introduced. A spin off of this was the creation of a global hobby practiced by young and old. Serious philatelists spend vast amounts on-one-of-a-kind rare stamps.

Which system works the best has been argued for many decades. Should one have a mailbox at point of business or residence or secure PO Boxes at central easy to access locations. One often finds that people use both systems to cover their mail requirements.

Boxes are no longer only to be found at post offices and high volume traffic areas such as malls and stations house up to 100 000 boxes in one area.

Governmental and private concerns work together to offer a slick, secure and well run service. PO Box rental spots are frequented by people of all walks of life. These centers have featured in scary mysteries in both books and movies. Anyone not sure about where they may be staying can rent a box to ensure they will always be contactable.
